It helps for brain development and bone maintenance. It also regulates our metabolic rates. The most common symptom of iodine deficiency is the enlarged of the thyroid gland. It is also responsible for shortness of breath, weight gain and increase in heart rate. Which may be a big problem in future.

        It is an essential mineral. It is content of red blood cell, when it binds with hemoglobin and transport oxygen to cells.
Iron is of two type :
      Heme iron - it is only found in animal foods and red meat. Red meat contain high amount of this. This iron is well absorbed to our body.
      Nonheme iron- this is a common iron. It is found both in animal and plant foods. It is not absorbed easily as that of iron.

iron deficiency is one of the most common nutrient deficiency for the world. It affects more that 25% people worldwide,47% of preschool children,30% of menstruating and upto 42% of young. pregnant woman may also suffer from it. The most common problem for iron deficiency is anemia. Quantity of red blood cells is decreased and the blood becomes less able to carry oxygen through the body.

Sources of iron -

  • Meat - one slice of liver contain more than 50% of the RDI.
  • Shellfish - 85 g of looked oysters provide 50% of RDI.
  • beans - 85 gram of beans provides 33% of RDI
  • Seeds - seeds also contain iron.
